Household Leak Detection Workshop Held for "Fix a Leak Week"

American Standard Brands recently co-sponsored a free residential leak detection and plumbing workshop in Marietta, Ga. to help mark Fix-a-Leak Week, a project of the Environmental Protection Agency's WaterSense Program that encourages Americans to check their plumbing fixtures for leaks.

The workshop was led by Georgia’s first Certified GreenPlumber, Nick Marine of Marine Plumbing, who showed participants how to check for leaks, and how to install retrofit kits that conserve water and reduce household expenses. Held in cooperation with the Cobb County Water System and MUST Ministries of Marietta, the two-hour workshop taught attendees creative tips for finding leaks - like adding food coloring to the toilet tank - and distributed free low-flow plumbing kits.

Fix-a-Leak Week was held March 14-20 this year and was designed to draw attention to the problem of running toilets, dripping faucets and other household leaks, which combine to waste an average of 10,000 gallons of water per household per year. The EPA estimates that nationwide, more than 1 trillion gallons of water leak from U.S. homes each year.
